Who am I?

Hey there mates! Name's Ivan and I work in an online English school Virginia Beowulf and teach/learn English not only as a subject or a profession, but a lifestyle. And I'll be as happy as a lark to share this knowledge with you! I'm always trying to keep up with the times and never sound, like "London is the capital of the UK" (it's a common story in Russian schools; all students leave them knowing just this phrase only), or like a Robocop - I was compared once with one by a native speaker back in the days. So, I will be on heaven seven to hand it down to you, folks!
What I do, have, and can, you ask?

English = C2 (Proficiency);
Education:
  • Linguistics University in Moscow region;
Specialisation: Linguistics (Translation Science) – Bachelor's degree;
  • Linguistics University in Moscow;
Specialisation: Linguistics (The English language and cross-cultural communication) – Master's degree;
Certificates:
    • Business English (Advanced), 2015;
  • EFSet (76/100 - Proficiency), 2019;
  • CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English, Grade C, 2021).
My hobbies are:
- English, its accents and dialects as well as idioms and collocations, and many more;
- Interpretation (RUS-ENG, ENG-RUS);
- Sports: football (soccer), wrestling, Russian martial arts, Crossfit, and calisthenics;
What are my experience and achievements? If any

  • Experience with different age (10 - 70 y.o.) and level (Beginner-Advanced) students both offline and online;
  • My students have grown up to 1.5-2 levels by CEFR on average; those who asked me to prepare them for some state exams, passed with "good" or "excellent" grades, and from 75 to 90 points, if the scale is different. As a big fan of Phonetics, I have been teaching it for 7 years already, to those who seek either British or American pronunciation patterns (with even some in-deep accents stress);
  • I even had an opportunity to teach at a university to 1-3 course students of the English Faculty for a year;
  • I have worked with translating and interpreting (7 years) and spoken with a lot of native speakers at previous jobs for more than 6 years now;
  • At the moment I am hitting the books and poring over loads of info on the thorny way of mine to knowledge, accompanied by a motto: "A learner for ever".

Experience with different age and level students
Students' progress
My pride is my students' progress (we are but students at any age)
Grammar - easy, accents - peasy
Why do we need Articles and what is the difference between "spoke" and "was speaking"; how many accents are there in the UK or the USA, and how many Tenses on earth are there in English? - the answers are not rocket science, all you need is ask the right people

Just a comment here to let other people know that Ivan is a great English tutor. Many thanks for your support, professional input and patience :) Right after a few sessions I've noticed a huge progress and confidence with my writing and speaking. I would highly recommend everyone to try a lesson!

Ivan is an exceptional tutor. It's not only about mastery of the subject or knowing how to teach people. These qualities are a must for any good teacher. He has something many teachers don't. He cares. He cares about you as a person, about making you understand, about meeting your study goals and making your experience truly individual.

I personally was taking the classes to develop more confidence in using the language and to identify and address gaps in my grammar knowledge. I'm not an expert but I think it is one of the hardest tasks for any teacher. Ivan did great. I want to thank him for not putting our classes on the rails of some conventional English course for level X. Thank you for listening me attentively for many hours, pinpointing and working through weak spots of my English knowledge!

Hope our roads will cross again in the future. But for now, wish you all the best!
